Conventional micropropagation methods are employed, making use of existing terminal growing points or auxillary buds. The resulting material is genetically true to type and avoids the potential pitfalls of variation derived from phases of de-differentiated growth or callus formation. Small explants from stock plant material are sterilized and put on an artificial growth medium containing all the requisites for plant growth, including plant growth regulators. By using a carefully determined balance of these regulators, apical dominance is overcome and the proliferation of existing growth centers is promoted. These proliferation cultures are transferred to fresh media at approximately three week intervals and the process is repeated. |

Characteristics of the plants The plants are uniform, true to type with distinctive characteristics of increased vigour due to their higher health status.
